Camp Director Val Wright Awarded Highest
Honor from American Camp Association Wisconsin--the
Acorn Award.
The Acorn Award is the highest honor presented to a nominated
member of ACA Wisconsin. Its purpose is to honor individual
members of the Section who have given truly outstanding and
exceptional service to camping within the Section that is “above
and beyond the call of duty.” Carrying out the normal duties of
an elected office or chairship of a committee is not alone
sufficient. New at Camp. In addition to the
new Art Center Steps and the new Nature Center Steps (see
below), we also added new furniture and equipment. We added new
wooden bunk beds and new equipment in the kitchen--dishwasher
and mixer. Click here to see pictures. NEW!Blast from the Past. See photo gallery from past
summers. I am scanning my old photos.
The first gallery is from August 1991. Find Staff
Colin, Martin, Mark, Richard, Sarah, Cindy, Angel, Sonja, Ms Val
and LIT's Adam, Pharaoh, Daisy, Ramses, Anthony and Kindrick.
Watch this site for MORE photo galleries from past summers. Camp Alumni to archive Summer 2007 photos. Our House In The Wood camp alumni site will be archiving our 2007 camp photos from Bunk 1. In past summers, once they were gone from the Bunk 1 site, no one had access to them again. This is GREAT news. Please click on the Camp Alumni REGISTRATION button to sign up for House In The Wood Camp Alumni. It's FREE! Workbee a Success! We had a total of 80 people attend workbee! We had a group from the Settlement's Business Office, a group from Noble Street Charter School and a group from the Settlement's Project YES! AmeriCorps program. They completed over 20 hours of work over three and a half days. Click here for the pictures. Thanks for Paint Donation & Bay Road Repairs. A big thank you to Linda and Dave who recently got married at camp over the Labor Day weekend. Linda has been the camp nurse during the summer on and off for about 15 years. They donated Lowe's Gift Cards to purchase paint for Vittum Lodge. They also did repairs on Bay Road--the road that leads to camp. Click here for a picture of Linda and Dave at their wedding. New Camp Kitty-Tuffy. Sparky, one of the camp cats whom many of your know because she is so friendly, disappeared for 11 days while at camp. We think that she must have been locked in a neighbor's garage. In the meantime, we got a new baby kitty so that we would have two camp kitties. Meet Tuffy who helps in the office. Now there are three kitties at camp. Thanks for LIT Workshop. A big thank you goes out to Carol Kahn, Tracey Hall, Chuck Heisinger and Rod Echols for doing a LIT workshop over the weekend in July. Carol and Chuck are now making plans to help us get a year around suport program going for our LIT's. It is still in its early stages but it is looking good for mentoring, monthly meetings and life skill field trips around Chicago. Thanks to Building with Books. A big thank you to Building with Books who came out to House In The Wood for a week in July and did many community
service projects. Building with Books is a service organization that recruits students from Chicago High Schools. There were 22 students in the group that came to camp. They worked on the upper nature center steps, pulled weeds in the boating area, spread gravel and wood chips, and painted our building signs. Thanks! See one picture that says it all. Other pictures are in our photo gallery. Camp Reunion Photos.
