| House In The Wood is on one end of a peninsula on Lake Delavan. It occupies 23 acres. Half of our acreage is marsh and the other half is evenly divided between mowed grassy areas and mature oak forest. You can walk from one end of camp to the other in five minutes. Most of the shoreline has been left natural to encourage wildlife. Although small, we have a rich diversity of birds and wildlife. Our main buildings are arranged in a circle. Hickory House and our newly remodeled Vittum Lodge are located at the ends of camp. We share the peninsula with several summer homes, which are rarely occupied. | |

Our retreat center menus are based on preferences stated by the group leader like low-fat, low-sugar, poultry-only, or vegetarian for example. Then our menu planner comes up with a tasty array of choices served buffet style. Our food consistently receives rave reviews and we have been asked to publish a cookbook. Retreat groups may also choose to cook their own meals. FREE recipes. Click here for the retreat center favorites Cheddar Corn Chowder and Herbed Pan Oatmeal Bread. Our summer camp menus are designed for a child's taste and are served family style. We usually offer a vegetarian entree for supper and we always have a supper salad bar. The state of Wisconsin approves our balanced menus. |

We have first aid kits, biohazard cleanup kits and other safety systems located throughout camp. We
prioritize safety at our camp by providing safety education for all staff
and visitors. We also provide a clean, well-maintained facility to reduce
physical hazards. All program staff are certified in American Red Cross
first aid and CPR and some of our administration hold first responder
certification as well. The Town of Delavan rescue squad is very efficient
and typically responds within five minutes.
Our retreat center group leaders are responsible for their own health and emergency care. The orientation packet that is sent to our group leaders contains valuable tips for setting up an effective health and emergency care system. All retreat center group leaders are required to designate a safety representative who will go through our safety and emergency orientation each time they visit the facility. Our summer camp has health care on site for both campers and staff. We employ a 24 hour health coordinator. Our camp nurse stops is daily and is on call. Our doctor and emergency services are available within a few minutes. |
